Free PMP: Project Management Professional Exam Questions and Answers
PMP is the project management credential most employers recognise, and it changed substantially in July 2026 when PMI aligned it to the PMBOK Guide 8th Edition — any preparation quoting the old People 42% / Process 50% / Business Environment 8% split is out of date. The current weighting is Process 41%, People 33% and Business Environment 26%. The exam is 180 questions in four hours with two ten-minute breaks, and it now opens with a case-study section before the independent questions; formats include drag-and-drop and hands-on practicum items alongside multiple choice. Eligibility is tiered by education — three years leading projects with a bachelor's, five with upper-secondary — plus 35 hours of project management training, waived if you hold an active CAPM.

Question #2
A project had scheduling delays, which necessitated the team to work overtime to meet critical milestones. This led to some misunderstandings among team members. The project sponsor has allocated a monetary award. How should the project manager utilize the award?
Correct answer: B
Explanation
According to the PMBOK Guide, 6th edition, page 349, a monetary award is a type of recognition and reward that can be used to motivate and appreciate the project team members for their performance and contribution. However, a monetary award alone may not be sufficient to address the underlying issues of scheduling delays, overtime work, and misunderstandings among team members. Therefore, the project manager should also use the award to arrange a luncheon for all team members and include team-building sessions. This way, the project manager can foster a sense of camaraderie, collaboration, and trust among the team members, as well as provide them with an opportunity to relax, socialize, and celebrate their achievements. A luncheon and team-building sessions can also help the project manager to identify and resolve any conflicts, communication gaps, or interpersonal problems that may affect the team performance and morale. - Q1: How much does the PMP exam cost?
- A: As of October 2026, PMI lists the PMP exam fee at $425 for PMI members and $675 for non-members, and the fee is only charged once your application has been accepted. Individual PMI membership costs $139 a year, so joining before you pay for the exam works out cheaper than paying the non-member rate.
- Q2: How many questions are on the PMP exam and how long is it?
- A: The real exam has 180 questions, 170 of which are scored and 10 are unscored pretest questions that are mixed in at random. You get 240 minutes (4 hours), with two 10-minute breaks, one after the case-study section and one roughly midway through the remaining questions.
- Q3: What types of questions are on the PMP exam?
- A: Since the July 2026 exam update the exam uses multiple-choice questions with one or more correct answers, case or scenario sets, graphic-based questions, enhanced matching, matching, point-and-click hotspot and pull-down list items. Several of the interactive formats are only used on the computer-based exam, not on paper-based testing.
- Q4: What are the PMP eligibility requirements?
- A: You need 36 months of non-overlapping experience leading projects within the last 10 years if you hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent, 48 months with an associate-level or short-cycle tertiary qualification, or 60 months with a secondary school diploma; graduates of a PMI GAC-accredited degree need only 24 months. Everyone also needs 35 hours of project management training, which is waived if you hold an active CAPM.
- Q5: What are the PMP exam domains and weightings, and did they change in 2026?
- A: Under the PMP Exam Content Outline that took effect with the July 2026 exam update, the exam is weighted People 33%, Process 41% and Business Environment 26%, with roughly 40% of questions on predictive approaches and 60% on agile and hybrid approaches. This replaced the 2021 outline (People 42%, Process 50%, Business Environment 8%), lengthened the exam from 230 to 240 minutes and added AI and sustainability topics plus the new case-study and graphic-based question types.
- Q6: How long is the PMP certification valid and how do I renew it?
- A: PMP certification runs on a 3-year cycle. To renew, you earn 60 professional development units (PDUs) during each 3-year cycle, log them in PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements System and pay the certification renewal fee, which is separate from the PMI membership fee.
- Q7: Can I take the PMP exam online, and what languages is it offered in?
- A: The exam is delivered by Pearson VUE either at a test centre or as an online proctored exam, although online delivery is not available to citizens of mainland China, Hong Kong or Macau, and in mainland China only paper-based testing is offered. As of October 2026 PMI lists the exam in English, Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Russian, Spanish and Turkish.
- Q8: What happens if I fail the PMP exam?
- A: Your approved application gives you a 1-year eligibility period in which you can take the exam up to three times, with a re-examination fee charged for each further attempt. If you fail three times you must wait 1 year from the date of your last exam before reapplying, and if your eligibility period expires without a pass you simply reapply with no waiting period.
