Q1: How much does the PMP exam cost?
A: As of October 2026, PMI lists the PMP exam fee as US$425 for PMI members and US$675 for non-members. Pricing varies by region, so check the PMI site for the figure that applies to you.
Q2: How many questions are on the PMP exam and how long is it?
A: The real exam has 180 questions, of which 170 are scored and 10 are unscored pretest questions, and you get 240 minutes to complete it. There are two 10-minute breaks, one after the case-study section and one roughly midway through the independent questions.
Q3: What types of questions are on the PMP exam?
A: The July 2026 version of the exam uses multiple-choice single-response, multiple-response, matching, enhanced matching, pull-down list, point-and-click, graphic-based and case or scenario questions. Some formats, such as matching and point-and-click, appear only on the computer-based exam.

An active CAPM waives the 35-hour training requirement.
Q6: How is the PMP exam delivered and in what languages?
A: The exam is taken at a Pearson VUE test center or online with a proctor, and paper-based testing is used in mainland China. PMI offers it in 15 languages including English, Arabic, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, French, German and Spanish.
Q7: What is the PMP retake policy?
A: You may attempt the exam up to three times within your one-year eligibility period. After three failed attempts you must wait one year from your last attempt before reapplying, and if the eligibility period expires you must reapply without a waiting period.

A: The PMP runs on a three-year cycle. To renew you must earn 60 professional development units (PDUs) in each three-year cycle and pay the renewal fee.
