Free JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) Exam Questions and Answers

The JLPT runs from N5 to N1, N1 being the hardest, and is held twice a year — 5 July and 6 December in 2026. It is marked out of 180, and the rule that catches people out is sectional: you must clear both an overall threshold and a separate minimum in every section, so an N1 candidate needs at least 100 of 180 overall but also at least 19 in each of Language Knowledge, Reading and Listening. Fall short in one section and you fail the whole level regardless of your total, which makes balanced preparation matter more than a strong overall score. From the December 2025 sitting, score reports also carry a CEFR reference level.

The first 10 questions on this page are free to read, answers included — no account and no card. A plan opens the rest of the bank, the full timed practice test and your weak-topic reporting.
