Free Certified Translator (CT) – ATA (American Translators Association) Exam Questions and Answers

ATA certification is a professional credential rather than a language-proficiency test, and it is graded very differently from one. The examination is three hours, open book and proctored, with two passages translated into your target language, and marking is by error points rather than percentage: a passage passes at 17 error points or fewer and fails at 18 or more. Both passages must pass, and both independent graders must agree, with a third grader brought in to break a tie. The ATA does not publish a pass rate or a pass mark beyond that error threshold, so figures quoted on preparation blogs are not its own. Certification is maintained with continuing-education points.
