Free ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) Exam Questions and Answers
The ATAR is not an examination, and that is the single most important thing to know about it. It is a rank, calculated by state admission centres such as UAC in New South Wales from your scaled Year 12 subject results, that places you against your cohort rather than measuring you against a standard. It runs from 0.00 to 99.95 in steps of 0.05 — there is no 100 — and an ATAR of 80.00 means you finished ahead of roughly 80 per cent of the age group, not that you scored 80 per cent of anything. Scaling matters more than most candidates expect: the same raw mark in different subjects contributes differently.
