Free Gaokao (National Higher Education Entrance Examination) China Exam Questions and Answers
The Gaokao is coordinated by the National Education Examinations Authority under China's Ministry of Education but implemented province by province, and that is the detail most guides skip: the format genuinely differs depending on where you sit it. Provinces run 3+1+2, 3+3 or the older 3+X model, and the total is usually out of 750 — though Shanghai marks out of 660 and Hainan out of 900. It is held in early June, taken by around 12.9 million candidates, and for most undergraduate places it is the sole criterion, with no personal statement, interview or portfolio to offset it.
