Question #1
The following appeared in a letter to the editor of a Batavia newspaper "The department of agriculture in Batavia reports that the number of dairy farms throughout the country is now 25 percent greater than it was 10 years ago. During this same time period, however, the price of milk at the local Excello Food Market has increased from $1.50 to over $3.00 per gallon. To prevent farmers from continuing to receive excessive profits on an apparently increased supply of milk, the Batavia government should begin to regulate retail milk prices. Such regulation is necessary to ensure fair prices for consumers." Write a response in which you discuss what questions would need to be answered in order to decide whether the recommendation is likely to have the predicted result. Be sure to explain how the answers to these questions would help to evaluate the recommendation.
Type your answer, then reveal.
Correct answer: A
Explanation
The letter states a proposal to act as a solution for a given problem. It states that milk producers have increased the price of milk inspite of an increase in the supply, which enables them to receive excessive profits. The given suggestion is that government intervention might be a possible solution for addressing this issue. The proposal has given only a subjective view but has failed to prove how the government intervention might help them reach the required outcome through valid evidences. Firstly. The letter has failed to address the population growth in the region of Batavia. in the event of considering the supply and demand in a place. It is crucial to take into consideration the population of the place the equal proportion of the growth in the number of dairy farms This might lead to many reasons and it could also dissolve the issue if the population outburst might have happened. Another major issue that the letter has failed to address is the impact of the general rise in inflation. It is to be understood that in any economy it is imperative that there would be an increase in the price of products and services over a period of time There could even be an increase in the r

Exhibit.

Correct answer: B
Explanation
Triangles CDE and CFE share side CE and have CD = CF; the included angle at C is 55 degrees for DE and 60 degrees for EF, so by the hinge theorem EF is longer.

Question #3
Sets A and B contain 40 and 30 elements, respectively, and 16 of the elements in B are not in A. Set C is the set of all elements that are in A or in B or in both. One element is to be selected at random from C. What is the probability that the selected element will be a member of both A and B?

Correct answer: C
Explanation
A and B share 30 - 16 = 14 elements, so C has 40 + 30 - 14 = 56 elements; the probability is 14/56 = 1/4.

Question #5
A candy retailer packs pieces of fudge either in boxes of 12 pieces each or in boxes of 15 pieces each. If the retailer uses only 12-piece boxes to pack a certain batch of fudge, then 1 piece will be left over. If the retailer uses only 15-piece boxes to pack the batch, then 10 pieces will be left over and the retailer will use 7 fewer boxes than when using the 12-piece boxes. How many pieces of fudge are in the batch?
Correct answer: C
Explanation
Let N be the batch: (N-1)/12 - 7 = (N-10)/15 gives 15N - 1275 = 12N - 120, so 3N = 1155 and N = 385, which leaves 1 over in 12s and 10 over in 15s.

Question #7
Exhibit. For each of 20 brands of protein bars, the number of grams of protein per bar was rounded to the nearest gram and recorded. The histogram shows the frequency distribution of the recorded numbers of grams of protein per bar for the 20 brands, where each interval shown includes its left endpoint and excludes its right endpoint. Based on the histogram, which of the following could be the average (arithmetic mean) and the median, respectively, of the recorded numbers of grams of protein per bar for the 20 brands?

Correct answer: A
Explanation
Nine of the 20 values are below 20 and nine lie in [20,25), so the 10th and 11th values (the median) are between 20 and 24. The mean lies between (305/20) = 15.25 and (385/20) = 19.25, so only 16 and 21 fits.

Question #8
In a set of polygons, 80 percent are hexagons. Of the hexagons, 20 percent are regular hexagons.

Correct answer: D
Explanation
20 percent of the polygons are not hexagons, but some of them may be regular polygons (e.g., squares), so the percent that are neither hexagons nor regular polygons is anywhere from 0 to 20 percent, which may be more or less than 16 percent.

Question #9
Company A had 47 employees at the beginning of 2001 and 78 employees at the beginning of 2008. Company B had 53 employees at the beginning of 2004 and 90 employees at the beginning of 2013.

Correct answer: A
Explanation
Company A: (78 - 47)/7 = 31/7 = 4.43 per year. Company B: (90 - 53)/9 = 37/9 = 4.11 per year. Quantity A is greater.

Question #10
The graph summarizes the responses from 4,500 respondents who rated their degree of confidence in each of eight United States institutions. Each respondent gave each institution one of five confidence ratings: high, moderate, little, none, or undecided. Of the respondents who did not rate their degree of confidence in the federal government undecided, approximately what fraction rated their degree of confidence in that institution little or none?

Correct answer: B

FAQ
- Q1: How much does the GRE General Test cost?
- A: As of October 2026, ETS charges US$249 for the GRE General Test in most of the world and US$237.86 in China; test takers in India are directed to the ETS India site for local pricing. Rescheduling costs US$55 (US$55.43 in China), and eligible test takers can apply for a fee reduction voucher that lowers the test fee to US$100.
- Q2: How many questions are in GRE Verbal Section 1, and how long is it?
- A: The Verbal Reasoning measure of the real exam has two sections: Section 1 has 12 questions in 18 minutes and Section 2 has 15 questions in 23 minutes. This is the shorter structure ETS introduced on September 22, 2023, and the whole test, including Analytical Writing and Quantitative Reasoning, takes about 1 hour 58 minutes.
- Q3: What question types appear in the GRE Verbal section?
- A: The exam uses three question types: Reading Comprehension, Text Completion (passages of one to five sentences with one to three blanks) and Sentence Equivalence (a single sentence with one blank where you must pick two answers that produce equivalent meanings). ETS says roughly half the measure is passage-based reading comprehension and the other half is completing sentences or paragraphs.
- Q4: How is the GRE Verbal section scored?
- A: Verbal Reasoning is reported on a 130 to 170 scale in 1-point increments, the same scale as Quantitative Reasoning, while Analytical Writing is scored 0 to 6 in half-point steps. The measure is section-level adaptive, so the computer picks the difficulty of your second Verbal section based on how you did on Section 1, and official scores appear in your ETS account 8 to 10 days after the test.
- Q5: How long are GRE scores valid?
- A: GRE General Test scores are reportable for 5 years after your test date. Within that window you can send scores from any test administration using ScoreSelect, and additional score reports cost US$40 per recipient as of October 2026.
- Q6: How often can you retake the GRE General Test?
- A: You can take the real exam once every 21 days, up to five times within any rolling 12-month period. This limit applies even if you cancelled your scores on a previous attempt.
- Q7: Where and how is the GRE General Test delivered?
- A: The exam is computer-delivered either at more than 1,000 test centres in over 160 countries or at home with a remote proctor, provided your equipment and testing room meet ETS requirements. Both options can be scheduled year-round.
