CCSP Salary Guide

What CCSP holders earn — the verified benchmark, how role, region and experience move the number, and how to build a salary estimate you can trust.

Here is the one number in this guide you can take to the bank, properly sourced: Skillsoft's 2025 "Top-Paying IT Certifications" research put the average salary for holders of the Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) at $171,524 in the United States. Everything else you will read about CCSP pay — including most figures circulating on salary sites — is either a self-reported sample, a job-advert average or an estimate, and should be treated accordingly.

That honesty matters, because "what does the CCSP pay?" is really three questions stacked on top of each other: what do surveys measure, what moves an individual's number up or down, and how do you turn a published average into a realistic expectation for your own city, role and experience level. This guide works through all three. It stays strictly on earnings — which roles the certification leads to is mapped in our CCSP career path guide, and the full cost-benefit question is answered in is the CCSP worth it?.

What the verified benchmark actually tells you

Skillsoft's figure is a US average across survey respondents holding the certification. Three caveats stop it being a promise:

It is an average, not a floor. Averages in certification surveys skew towards experienced respondents, because ISC2 requires five years of cumulative IT experience (three in information security, one in a CCSP domain) before full certification. A population that is five-plus years into its career will always average high. If you are at the minimum experience threshold, expect to sit below the average; if you lead a cloud security function, you may sit well above it.

Correlation is not causation. People who pursue the CCSP tend to already work in senior, well-paid corners of security. The certification did not create all of that salary; it clusters with it. Adding the letters to your signature does not add the difference between your pay and the average to your next payslip.

It is US data. No equivalently sourced 2026 figure for the UK, EU or Asia-Pacific was verifiable for this guide, and we will not invent one. Cybersecurity pay differs substantially between markets, and even within them — London versus the north of England, the Bay Area versus the Midwest. For non-US readers the US average is best used as a relative signal (the CCSP sits among the higher-paying certifications in Skillsoft's research) rather than an absolute target.

The five variables that move a CCSP salary

Published averages hide more than they reveal. When you compare offers or benchmark your current pay, these are the levers that explain most of the spread.

1. Role, not certification

Employers pay for the job, and the certification helps you get the job. The CCSP appears in adverts for cloud security engineers, cloud security architects, security consultants and governance, risk and compliance (GRC) specialists. As a general labour-market pattern, roles that own design decisions and carry broader accountability — architecture and lead consulting — advertise higher ranges than implementation-focused engineering roles at the same company, and management roles are banded separately again. Treat that as directional reasoning rather than survey data: no verified per-role CCSP salary breakdown was available for this guide, so validate the ordering against live adverts in your own market.

2. Experience depth

Because ISC2's requirement sets a five-year floor, the CCSP population spans everyone from newly eligible engineers to twenty-year veterans. Within any single role, years of relevant cloud security experience — and specifically evidence of outcomes (migrations secured, audits passed, incidents handled) — moves offers more than any credential does.

3. Location and working model

Country, city and remote policy each matter. High-cost hubs pay more in absolute terms; remote roles increasingly pay on bands tied to the employer's location strategy rather than yours. UK candidates searching for "CCSP salary UK" should know that ISC2 prices its exams regionally (UK fees are set in GBP) but publishes no salary data by country; use UK-specific aggregators and live job adverts, and read the methodology notes before trusting any single figure.

4. Sector and employer type

Financial services, big tech and consultancies with billable cloud security practices typically anchor the top of the market. Public sector and education anchor the lower end but often compensate with pensions, stability and flexibility that a headline salary comparison misses.

5. The credential stack

The CCSP rarely appears alone on a strong CV. It is most powerful combined with hands-on platform depth — provider credentials for AWS, Azure or Google Cloud — because senior job specifications ask for vendor-neutral judgement plus implementation skill in the employer's stack. Holders of the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) should note that Skillsoft's research is also widely cited for CISSP pay, but the figure we could trace came only through secondary reporting, so we have left it out; our separate CISSP salary guide covers that certification's earnings picture, and CCSP vs CISSP: do you need both? addresses the overlap question in one place.

How to build your own salary estimate

A published average plus a method beats a page of unsourced numbers. Here is a four-step approach that produces a defensible personal benchmark in about two hours:

  1. Pull ten live adverts, not survey averages. Search your target role title (say, "cloud security engineer") in your actual market, and record the advertised ranges. Adverts reflect what employers will pay this quarter; surveys reflect what respondents said last year.
  2. Separate the role premium from the certification premium. Compare adverts that require or prefer the CCSP against equivalent ones that do not. The gap — often smaller than certification marketing implies — is the realistic credential effect in your market.
  3. Position yourself inside the range. At or near ISC2's minimum experience, benchmark against the lower half of advertised ranges; with several years of cloud-specific delivery behind you, the upper half. Be honest about which achievements you can evidence in an interview.
  4. Sanity-check against one sourced anchor. The Skillsoft US average is your calibration point: if your estimate for a senior US role lands wildly above it, or your estimate for an entry-level role lands at it, revisit your assumptions.

Does demand support these salaries?

Sustained pay requires sustained scarcity, and the evidence there is reasonable. The ISC2 Cybersecurity Workforce Study 2024 reported a global workforce gap of more than 4.7 million people. The 2025 study changed approach — it published no headline gap figure — but found 95% of organisations reporting at least one skills gap on their teams, with 59% rating gaps critical or significant, up from 44% a year earlier. Cloud security sits squarely in the skill areas organisations struggle to fill, which is the structural reason CCSP-relevant roles command strong compensation. None of this guarantees any individual outcome; it does suggest the market underneath these salaries is not about to soften on its own.

Negotiating with a certification in hand

A few practical points for when the number becomes a conversation:

  • Cite roles and ranges, not the certification average. "Comparable cloud security architect roles in this market advertise X to Y" is persuasive; "the average CCSP earns $171,524" invites the response that averages are not offers.
  • Time the credential. If you are close to passing, some employers will agree progression terms contingent on certification — worth raising explicitly.
  • Count the whole package. The CCSP itself costs $599 USD (Americas pricing as listed in 2026, varying by region) plus $135 a year in ISC2 maintenance fees and 90 continuing education credits per three-year cycle. Employers frequently cover exam fees, maintenance fees and study time; each is a negotiable line worth real money.
  • Remember retention pricing. The strongest salary moves for certified professionals often come from changing employer, when the credential re-enters the screening process. Internally, its value shows up more slowly, through promotion cases.

The bottom line on CCSP pay

One verified anchor — a $171,524 US average from Skillsoft's 2025 research — plus five variables that move your personal number: role, experience, location, sector and the rest of your credential stack. Build your estimate from live adverts in your own market, use the anchor to calibrate, and treat any site quoting precise CCSP salaries for every city and job title with scepticism, because that data does not exist in verifiable form.

If the research has confirmed the destination is worth the journey, the next step is the exam itself: our CCSP certification guide covers eligibility, cost and process, and ExamPractice offers free sample questions for the CCSP — with fuller question sets and timed practice-test simulation for subscribers — on the CCSP practice questions page, so you can benchmark your readiness before booking anything.
