Microsoft Power BI Certification Guide

Everything the PL-300 Power BI Data Analyst certification involves — what the credential is, exam format, cost, scoring, renewal and where it leads.
Continue readingCompare the top DBA certifications — Oracle 19c and 23ai, Azure DP-300, MySQL 8.0 and EDB PostgreSQL — by cost, renewal rules and the platforms they fit.

A database administrator certification is worth pursuing when it proves the specific things the job demands: keeping databases available, backed up, secure and fast. That rules the field down quickly. In 2026 the certifications that genuinely map to the DBA role are Oracle's Database Administration track (19c and the newer 23ai), Microsoft's Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300), Oracle's MySQL 8.0 Database Administrator, and EDB's PostgreSQL Professional. Which of them is "best" depends almost entirely on which database engine you administer — or want to.
This guide compares those role-specific credentials. It is not a beginner's list — if you hold no database credential at all, start with our ranking of the best database certifications for beginners — and it is not about SQL as a query language, which has its own comparison of SQL certifications. For the whole landscape across every specialism, see database certifications explained.

| Cost (USD list, varies by country) | $245 each ($490 total) | $245 | $165 | $245 | Confirm on EDB's site |
| Prerequisites | None enforced (1Z0-082 grants Associate, 1Z0-083 upgrades to Professional) | None mandatory; ~1 year Oracle DBA experience recommended | None enforced | None | Levelled: Associate then Professional |
| Validity | Does not expire | Does not expire | 1 year; free online renewal via Microsoft Learn | Does not expire | Version-tagged; confirm current terms with EDB |
| Best for | DBAs on the long-term-support on-prem release most employers run | DBAs standardising on Oracle's current 23ai release | SQL Server and Azure SQL administrators | Admins of the most widely deployed open-source relational DB | PostgreSQL shops wanting a vendor credential |

"Oracle DBA certification" has meant the Database Administration 2019 track for years, and as of August 2026 both exams remain on offer. The path is sequential: passing 1Z0-082 (Database Administration I) makes you an Oracle Database Administration 2019 Certified Associate; passing 1Z0-083 (Database Administration II — performance tuning, security, RAC and multitenant administration) upgrades you to Certified Professional. Each exam is $245 USD, and the credentials never expire.
Oracle has not published 2026-refreshed format details we could verify for these two exams, so check question counts and durations on the live exam pages rather than trusting older blog posts. The deeper point for career planning: 19c is the long-term-support on-premises release a large share of employers still run, which keeps this "older" certification commercially relevant.
Oracle's current database release, 23ai, now has its own associate-level exam running in parallel with the 19c track. Prep sources describe 1Z0-182 as 60 multiple-choice questions in 120 minutes with a 65% passing score, spread across 13 weighted domains covering instances, users, storage and multitenant architecture — treat those figures as secondary-source and verify when booking. It costs $245 USD, has no mandatory prerequisite (about a year of Oracle DBA experience is recommended), and does not expire.
Choose by employer reality, not release number. If the databases you administer — or the jobs you are applying for — run 19c, the two-exam 2019 Professional track signals more depth, including tuning and recovery skills tested at the Professional level. If your organisation is adopting 23ai, or you are betting on where Oracle estates are heading, the single-exam 1Z0-182 gets a current-release credential on your CV for half the outlay. Both exist in parallel deliberately; neither invalidates the other.
For SQL Server and Azure SQL environments, DP-300 is the role-based DBA credential, covering administration of relational databases both in Azure and on SQL Server. At $165 USD (varying by the country in which the exam is proctored) it is the cheapest exam in this comparison, and it remains active with no retirement announced.
Two things distinguish it. First, renewal: the certification is valid for one year but renews free through an online, unproctored assessment on Microsoft Learn, available from six months before expiry — a far lighter maintenance burden than resitting a paid exam. Second, scoring: Microsoft uses its standard 700/1000 scaled passing score for role-based exams, and question counts vary, so distrust any source quoting an exact number.
Worth knowing for context: veteran SQL Server DBAs may remember the retired MCSA-era exams such as 70-462 (Administering SQL Server 2012/2014 Databases); their study archives — like this 70-462 exam page — still illustrate how Microsoft frames administration scenarios, but DP-300 is the credential to actually pursue.
MySQL powers a vast amount of the web, and 1Z0-908 remains Oracle's flagship MySQL DBA exam as of August 2026 — still 8.0-coded, with no successor for a newer MySQL version confirmed. Mirrors of Oracle's exam page report 73 multiple-choice questions in 120 minutes with a 62% passing score. It costs $245 USD, has no prerequisites, and as an Oracle product certification it does not expire.
This is the right pick for administrators in open-source-heavy stacks, web companies and agencies. The exam sits inside a small family — there is also a Developer exam (1Z0-909) and an Implementation Associate (1Z0-922) — and the full track, including preparation and cost detail, is walked through in our MySQL certification guide.
PostgreSQL has no official certification from the open-source project itself; the best-known vendor programme comes from EDB (EnterpriseDB), with Associate and Professional levels tagged to PostgreSQL versions. Secondary sources describe the Professional exam's format and fee, but we could not confirm current figures, so treat EDB's own certification page as the source of truth. Because choosing a PostgreSQL credential is really a question about a fragmented ecosystem, we cover the whole picture — EDB and the alternatives — in PostgreSQL certification options explained.
Certification maintenance differs more than candidates expect, and it changes the real long-term cost:
A $165 DP-300 with yearly renewals and a $490 Oracle 19c Professional that never expires are different financial propositions over a five-year career. Neither is universally better; just price the whole lifecycle.
The accidental DBA. A sysadmin at a mid-sized firm inherits two production SQL Server instances and an Azure SQL migration project. DP-300 is the obvious move: it certifies exactly that hybrid situation, costs the least, and the free renewal keeps it alive while the role evolves.
The Oracle shop lifer. An operations engineer supporting 19c estates for a bank should take 1Z0-082, use the Associate credential to move into the DBA team, then complete 1Z0-083 once daily tuning and recovery work makes the Professional material feel familiar rather than theoretical.
The web-stack administrator. A DevOps engineer running MySQL clusters behind a busy application gets more from 1Z0-908 than from any Oracle Database exam — it validates the engine they actually operate.
The open-source strategist. A DBA whose company is migrating from commercial engines to PostgreSQL should read the ecosystem guide first, then decide whether EDB's programme or demonstrable project work serves them better.
Match the credential to the engine that pays your salary: DP-300 for Microsoft estates, 1Z0-082/083 or 1Z0-182 for Oracle, 1Z0-908 for MySQL, and EDB for PostgreSQL once you have confirmed current terms. If you administer several, certify the one with the most production risk in your hands — that is the certification whose study hours repay themselves at work whether or not you ever print the certificate. And before any booking, run a full-length timed simulation; the exam fee is the most expensive practice test you can buy.
Exam facts in this guide were checked against official certification-provider pages on . Fees, exam codes and policies change — confirm on the provider’s own site before you book.
