Free 700-905: Cisco HyperFlex for Systems Engineers Exam Questions and Answers
Cisco HyperFlex for Systems Engineers is exam 700-905, part of Cisco certifications. In Cisco's current scheme the first digit gives the level: 100 is entry, 200 associate, 300 the CCNP concentration exams, 350 the CCNP core exams that also qualify you for CCIE, 500 specialist and 700 the unproctored sales exams. Older codes such as 400-, 640- and 642- predate the February 2020 restructure, when every CCNA track was collapsed into one exam and CCNP moved to a core-plus-concentration model.

Question #1
An administrator wants to open the HX Connect user interface for a HyperFlex cluster. Which address should be used?
Correct answer: C
Explanation
HX Connect is the HTML5 management interface served by the HX Data Platform and is reached through the cluster management IP address. The ESXi host address opens the host client, the Fabric Interconnect virtual IP opens Cisco UCS Manager, and the vCenter address opens the vSphere Client.

Question #2
How does the Controller VM on a converged HyperFlex node access the cache and capacity drives of that node?
Correct answer: D
Explanation
The Controller VM is given direct access to the storage controller by PCI passthrough, so it manages the drives without the ESXi storage layer. The NFS datastore is what the Controller VM presents to ESXi, which is the reverse direction.

Question #3
A customer deploys an eight-node converged HyperFlex cluster with Replication Factor 3 (RF3). What is the maximum number of simultaneous node failures the cluster can tolerate and still keep the data available?
Correct answer: B
Explanation
With RF3, three copies of each block are kept on different nodes, so the cluster survives two simultaneous failures. RF2 tolerates one. Cluster size does not raise the limit, because the tolerance depends on the number of copies.

Question #4
What is the capacity of the housekeeping SSD in an HX220c M5 node?
Correct answer: B
Explanation
The M5 HX220c uses a 240 GB SSD as its housekeeping drive. The 120 GB size belonged to the earlier M4 generation. Capacity drives, not the housekeeping drive, come in the larger sizes.

Question #5
Which drive selection rule applies to the capacity drives installed in a single HX node?
Correct answer: C
Explanation
HyperFlex requires every capacity drive in a node to be the same type and size. Mixing types or sizes within a node is not supported, and pairing or cache drive size does not change that rule.

Question #6
Which Cisco HyperFlex node model is a 2RU rack server?
Correct answer: D
Explanation
The HX240c M5 is a 2RU server that holds more front and rear drives. The 220c models, including the Edge and all-flash variants, are 1RU servers.

Question #7
Which tool provides out-of-band management of a standalone Cisco UCS C-Series server that is not connected to a Fabric Interconnect?
Correct answer: C
Explanation
A standalone C-Series server is managed through its own Cisco Integrated Management Controller (Cisco IMC). Cisco UCS Manager runs on the Fabric Interconnects and manages only connected servers. HX Connect and vSphere manage the cluster and hypervisor, not the server hardware out of band.

Question #8
In a Cisco HyperFlex M5 node, where is the ESXi hypervisor installed?
Correct answer: C
Explanation
M5 nodes boot ESXi from an internal M.2 SATA SSD. Earlier M4 nodes used FlexFlash SD cards, which is the tempting distractor. Cache and capacity drives are reserved for the HX Data Platform.

Question #9
A systems engineer is building an HX220c M5 hybrid converged node. What is the minimum number of capacity HDDs that must be installed in the node?
Correct answer: C
Explanation
HX220c hybrid nodes require a minimum of six capacity HDDs, with a maximum of eight. Fewer drives than the minimum is not a supported configuration, even if the cache and housekeeping drives are present.

Question #10
A HyperFlex node connected to a pair of Fabric Interconnects fails and is replaced with a new server. The administrator wants the replacement to take on the failed node's MAC addresses, BIOS settings and firmware policies without configuring each item by hand. Which capability of the Cisco UCS managed model provides this?
Correct answer: A
Explanation
In the managed model, UCS Manager associates a service profile with a server, so identity (MAC, UUID) and policies (BIOS, firmware) follow the profile rather than the hardware. Host profiles cover ESXi settings only, and a standalone IMC export does not carry fabric-wide identity pools.
