Free CISSP: Certified Information Systems Security Professional Exam Questions and Answers
CISSP is the credential most often named in senior security job adverts, and the one whose difficulty is usually misunderstood: it is adaptive, so the exam adjusts to your answers and ends anywhere between 100 and 150 items within a three-hour window. The pass mark is 700 out of 1000 on a scaled score, and registration is $749 in the Americas. ISC2 requires five years of paid work across at least two of the eight domains — one year waivable with a relevant degree or approved credential — and you can sit the exam first, becoming an Associate of ISC2 with six years to earn the experience. Security and Risk Management is the largest domain at 16%. Candidates consistently report the hard part is not technical depth but answering as a manager rather than an engineer.

Question #1
What is the FIRST step when developing an Information Security Continuous Monitoring (ISCM) program?
Please select an optionIncorrectCorrect answer: D
NIST SP 800-137 starts with defining an ISCM strategy grounded in the organization's risk tolerance; that strategy then drives the metrics, frequencies, architecture and data collection that follow.

An organization has been collecting a large amount of redundant and unusable data and filling up the storage area network (SAN). Management has requested the identification of a solution that will address ongoing storage problems. Which is the BEST technical solution?
Please select an optionIncorrectCorrect answer: A
Because the problem is redundant data accumulating on the SAN, deduplication eliminates duplicate copies and frees the most space. Compression and caching mainly aid performance, while replication increases rather than reduces storage use.
Was this answer correct?Question #3
In which process MUST security be considered during the acquisition of new software?
Please select an optionIncorrectCorrect answer: B
Security requirements must be stated in the request for proposal so vendors bid against them; requirements introduced later in negotiation, selection or implementation are costly and often cannot be met.

Wireless users are reporting intermittent Internet connectivity. Connectivity is restored when the users disconnect and reconnect, utilizing the web authentication process each time. The network administrator can see the devices connected to the APs at all times. Which of the following steps will MOST likely determine the cause of the issue?
Please select an optionIncorrectCorrect answer: A
Clients stay associated at the AP but lose Internet access until they reauthenticate through the portal, which is the signature of an expiring captive-portal session timer. An encryption or passphrase mismatch would prevent association entirely.
Was this answer correct?Question #5
Two computers, each with a single connection on the same physical 10 gigabit Ethernet network segment, need to communicate with each other. The first machine has a single Internet Protocol (IP) Classless Inter-Domain Routing (CIDR) address of 192.168.1.3/30 and the second machine has an IP/CIDR address 192.168.1.6/30. Which of the following is correct?
Please select an optionIncorrectCorrect answer: D
A /30 mask leaves two usable hosts per subnet, placing 192.168.1.3 in 192.168.1.0/30 and 192.168.1.6 in 192.168.1.4/30, so the hosts are on different layer 3 networks. Traffic between different networks must be routed, not bridged.
Was this answer correct?Question #6
A database server for a financial application is scheduled for production deployment. Which of the following controls will BEST prevent tampering?
Please select an optionIncorrectCorrect answer: B
Input and data validation stops malformed or malicious values from altering stored records, directly preventing tampering. Logging and monitoring only detect tampering after it occurs.
