Microsoft has quietly answered this question for you: it now positions DP-600, the Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate exam, as the step after PL-300. That does not automatically make it your right next step, though. Depending on whether your work is drifting towards pipelines, platform architecture or broader cloud analytics, one of three or four different certifications will serve you better — and one popular-sounding option (the old Azure Data Engineer path) no longer exists at all.
Short answer: if you want to stay in analytics and grow with Microsoft's current platform strategy, take DP-600 (Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate). If your role is shifting towards building and maintaining data pipelines, take DP-700 (Fabric Data Engineer Associate). The signal to choose DP-700 over DP-600 is where your time actually goes.
