The exam is two hours of performance-based tasks in live Kubernetes clusters (currently based on v1.35), delivered online through the PSI Bridge proctoring platform, with a passing score of 66%. Know the terms before you buy: the exam lists at $445 USD, certifications earned since April 2024 are valid for two years, and renewal means a full retake — there is no continuing-education path. Make sure any prep material targets version 004, current since January 2026 — the 003 exam is gone. HashiCorp does not publish the passing score. A lab-heavy Professional-tier Terraform certification ($295, four hours, includes a retake) exists for later in your progression.
Google Cloud Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer. The pick for GCP shops: 50–60 questions over two hours, $200 USD plus tax, valid for two years, covering SRE practices, CI/CD pipelines, observability and cost optimisation. Google publishes pass/fail results only and uses no exam codes. Its market is narrower than the AWS and Azure equivalents, so choose it when your target employers are demonstrably on Google Cloud.
GitHub Actions (GH-200). Since July 2025 GitHub exams are delivered through Pearson VUE with Microsoft-style codes; GH-200 is a 100-minute, intermediate, multiple-choice exam at $99 USD in most regions. It is a lightweight but increasingly relevant signal, since GitHub Actions is many teams' entire CI/CD layer. Kubernetes and Cloud Native Associate (KCNA). If the CKA looks premature, this $250 multiple-choice exam (90 minutes, two attempts included, valid two years) is the genuine entry-level Kubernetes credential. Certifications to avoid or double-check in 2026
Docker Certified Associate (DCA): discontinued after the Mirantis acquisition of Docker Enterprise, with no successor. Any list still recommending it is stale.
Microsoft AZ-204: retired in 2026; it can no longer be taken or renewed, which is precisely why AZ-104 is now the practical route into AZ-400.
Anything described with old codes or validity terms: CNCF certifications now carry two-year validity (not the old three), Terraform is on version 004, and AWS's SysOps name is gone. Treat outdated codes in an article as a signal to distrust its other claims too.
